- Treatments and other medications your pet is likely to take.

- A baggage tag with up-to-date information so that you can be reached during your trip if necessary.

- Waterproof bags to pick up poop, like these.

- Bowls for water and food. Choose bowls that fold, light, waterproof and strong, like this one for example.

- A photo, in case you lose your dog.

- Remember to put a collar on your dog or cat with a tag with up-to-date identification information in all circumstances.

- A ball or his favorite toy to throw during breaks.

- His health record with the vaccine certificates.

- Do you use a transport crate? Make sure that your name, tel, e-mail are visibly noted above. And make sure your dog is used to his crate before the trip.

2. Travel Tips

- Perhaps ask your vet for a sedative or an anti-nausea. Check in with him before you go.

- Before putting your pet in its crate, put on its collar, leash and harness. You don't want him running away while you tie him up at the airport or on your break on the road, do you?

- Take his usual food or make sure you can find it where you go. Do not forget to take some with you to give it to him before arriving at your destination.

- If your pet is used to sleeping in a kennel or basket, plan to bring it to make it feel like home. Familiar smells will comfort him.

3. Your pet's first aid kit

- Compresses

- Gauze roll

- Bandages

- Cotton Swabs

- Instant cold pack

- Fabric band

- Tweezers

- Thermometer

- Oxygen Water

- Antibiotic Cream

In addition:plastic gloves, scissors, sedative for animals, ophthalmic serum, bottle of water.

4. For the car

- cover for car seats

- portable litter box (get used to it before departure)

- pet's favorite toy and cushion from home

5. For air travel

If you plan to fly with your pet, be sure to check the airline's conditions.

Ask yourself if your pet will feel good on the plane. Its safety and comfort are your priority. So, if you have any doubt, take the car!

Additional advice

- Airlines require pets to be at least 8 months old and weaned before travel.

- Choose a direct flight.

- Only animals in good health and with good behavior are accepted.

- Take copies of prescriptions and vaccination certificates.

- To avoid extreme temperatures, fly at night in summer and day in winter.

- Contact your airline as soon as possible to reserve a seat for your animal. And confirm 36 hours before your departure.

- Feed him 4 hours before check-in. And keep water handy to hydrate her while you wait for boarding.

6. The transport cage

- Travel with a plastic cage and not iron so that your pet cannot hurt himself.

- Make sure the cage is the right size:your pet must be able to stand up.

- The cage must have a solid, waterproof floor, covered with a towel or other absorbent surface in case of small accidents.

There you go, now you know what precautions to take to travel easily with your dog or cat.

These tips are valid for classic airlines like Air France, but you can also apply them to trips with the SNCF.
